Join us for a workshop designed to provide an overview on how to recruit for and successfully maintain a diverse organization with Shayla Jones.

Participants will experience a hands-on approach to identifying barriers and best practices when it comes to board member, volunteer and constituent engagement.
This workshop will also utilize a trauma informed lens to better understand how to tailor the working environment to be culturally inclusive.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Identify how to access, select and support volunteers, staff, board and constituents. This includes best practices for recruitment and retention.
  • Have an increased knowledge of the meaning of diversity, equity and inclusion through a trauma informed perspective.
  • Discover biases and policies that hinder true equity and inclusion and will be able to identify best practices to overcome these barriers.
  • Participants will be able to begin to identify steps to creating a strategic plan to incorporate DEI efforts into their spaces.

About Shayla: 

Shayla Jones is an alumna of Gannon University, where she earned her degree in Social Work. During her academic career Shayla has focused on student needs surrounding food insecurity and through this work, she developed a passion for policy. She sought to bring awareness to many social issues that she faced and began to integrate herself into platforms where she could talk about her experiences and promote ways to change the narrative. In 2017, Shayla presented at Bowling Green University where she spoke about the impact of a diverse curriculum in the learning environment. Shayla co-leads groups that focuses on racial reconciliation within religious spaces. Her passion for diversity awareness even carries over to her professional career. Shayla utilizes her position to integrate cultural learning with the youth and child welfare professionals that she serves. Now serving as board president for The Script Project, Shayla seeks every opportunity to advocate, educate, and partner for change.
